While working for FRR Architects I successfully coordinated the structural design for a large, luxury new house in a private street in Cambridge.
The work was under pressure with tight deadlines. Over 30 individual steel members were installed of varying complexities. Some were isolated elements and others were part of larger assemblies. All had to interface correctly with other components with very little room for error.
The building featured large spans over the ground floor and utilised a Vierendeel truss concealed in the depth of the rear first floor wall. I utilised 3D modelling and interchange of 3D model data to assist in coordinating the structural design, fabrication and erection of the steel work. I was also responsible for giving clear 3D location data directly to the contractor on site to ensure that all elements were positioned correctly according to my instructions.
